TİRE, The Paradise of Aegean
With its unique nature and fat lands, Tire, which has been home to the Hittites, Phrygians, Lydians, Persians, Helens, Pergamon Kingdom, Romans, Byzantines, Sultanates and the Ottomans throughout history, is an important district of İzmir. Historical records show that Tire was the most developed settling area of the region in the 14th, 15th and 16th centuries.
Today, Tire is a museum city with the cultural heritage from the Byzantine an the Ottoman and religious ad architectural buildings of the 15th century.
Ulu Mosque, Yeni Mosque, Tahtakale Mosque and Külliye (complex of buildings adjacent to a mosque), Zaviye (a small dervish lodge) of Yeşil İmaret Mosque, Zaviye of Kurt and Doğancıyan, Külliye of Yoğurt-luzade, Necip Pasha Library, Gülcüoğulları Mansions, Ali Efe Inn an the nostalgic shops in the area are among them. The archeological heritage found in the vicinity of Tire is exhibited at the Tire Musem.
Tire district is 85 kilometers from İzmir. The Tuesday Street Market, it is possible to taste all kinds of fresh vegetables and fruits grown in the fat lands of the district and find the best examples of textile, clothing and skilled trade produced by traditional methods.
"Tire meatballs, seasonal herbs with olive oil, keşkek, sinkoto, jams, patlıcan balığı and kuyu kebab" are unique tastes which you cannot find elsewhere.
